Practice Statement
Minna Suoniemi
The basis of my artistic practice is often a constructed situation
where I place my models. I research human behavior by watching peoples
mechanisms and roles and inviting people in front of my videocamera.
What interests me particularly are the moments when my models are
less aware of the camera. I place my models in different situations
where they have to give up some of the controlled role that they
have for the camera. I play with the feeling of being watched. Its
the act of looking and being seen what interests me, and also the
position of the viewer in the final installation of the work. In
the center of focus in my work are basic human emotions, relations
between people and peoples actions determined by their role
in a certain situation and environment.
